You can never really have "too much" RAM. Especially with Windows XP Home Ediiton, it's a real RAM hog. I would suggest you talk with a local certified computer repair shop and see if they will install RAM you've purchased for this laptop and, if so, how much they'll charge you. The RAM I would recommend for this system is made by Crucial. The cheapest price I could find for it was on newegg.com. Here's the link:

You will find two options here, 512MB and 1GB. I gave you two options in case you can't afford the 1GB, but that's the one I would go with. Make sure you contact a local certified shop before you buy and see if they can install this for you. If you've never done it before, it can be a bear.
