Can you plz help me solve this problem related to electric device and internal resistance?
Here's the problem description:
A 3V thermoelectric engine with internal resistance of 2 ohm provides power to a load of 2 ohms. What is the power transferred to the load?
the thing is, I think that I should just consider the 2 resistors to be in series, then the power to the load would just be: P= V^2/r = 3^2/ 2= 4.5 Watt. But the way my friend says to do it is: P= [(3/2)^2]/ 2
what is the right way of doing this problem.
The two resistors form a voltage divider, so the voltage to the load is 1.5 volts. Now you can use any of the power formulas, such as E²/R = 1.5²/2 = 1.125 watts.
But the important part is that only some of the power gets to the load, half (another 1.125 watts) is wasted inside the source.
