Anemia with high RBC?
I just got the results back from a CBC test I had in January. According to the test results I had a high red blood count and a high hematocrit count, though only .2 higher on the red blood and .7 higher in the hematocrit than what is normal.
My doctor is sending me for a few more blood tests. When I went to pick up my new order for the tests yesterday, I asked him what he was looking for and he said he wanted to rule out anemia. Indeed, my test order form that I have to take into the clinic is for two different tests anemia tests.
It is my understanding that you become anemic when your red blood count is too low, not high like mine was. Is there a possibility of anemia with having a high red blood count? Or do I need to be calling my doctors office and verifying that he ordered the right tests?
Yes you can get anaemia of this type, the doc hasn't made a mistake!
The one I know is called Mediterranean anaemia but it is genetic so you would probably know if you had that in your family.
There are lots and lots of types of anaemia. I'm sure the doctor will explain it when the tests come back.
