How does this barcode symbol actually show that celebrity accounts on Facebook are real?

There are some celebrities on Facebook (and Youtube) that usually claim that they are real with some sort of barcode symbol.

For example, Selena Gomez's Facebook account has that barcode symbol under her profile picture that makes it official:

I would have copy and pasted it, but i fear that it would get me in trouble. How does this actually prove that they are real?
Sorry guys, i would've posted her account, but Yahoo wouldn't let me do that cause i got the 999 error.
But still, Selena has over 4000 Facebook friends

Last time I checked celebrities don't actually have a Facebook profile where you have to send a friend request, they just set up their own page.

Facebook has banned people from having "Selena Gomez" as their Facebook name and I don't really get why a celebrity would use their real name on their private profile, they most often use aliases. her most popular page on Facebook has no barcode

I can sort of see what you're talking about, like how Twitter has that little blue "Verified Account" check mark and usually you just have to fill out some form and how exactly they confirm it is something I'd like to know too but they probably call the agent and confirm with them
