Whats the Safe Number of Plugs to use in a Surge Protector?

My surge protector has slots to hold 8 plugs. With all of the wires and everything how many would be safe to use on that one surge protector? Is their some kind of safety hazard whats your opinion and how many would you use?

Generally same as the number of jacks it has, BUT more important is the wattage rating, which tells you the total load that will be placed on the inner parts and come from the wall. If you have one huge device that matches the rating -- don't plug anything else in. If you have a bunch of little things, you might be safe doubling some plugs up. (Try to limit this as much as possible.)

For example, common sizes of classic lightbulbs are from 45 to 150 watts. Computers (just the main box) can run at 200 to 500 watts, depending on the size. You've got to add up the things you want to plug in and make sure that total isn't over the maximum listed on the surge protector.
