Cisco SMARTnet is a maintenance contract to cover Cisco hardware and software. This is achieved by Cisco but is usually sold by an authorized Cisco reseller. Typically the contract period lasts for one year while Cisco will provide discounts for longer contracts.
Most Cisco devices running an operating system of Cisco IOS which is constantly updated and improved there are only two (legal) ways to get software updates to IOS a purchase every time it changes and secondly to take from the SMARTnet contract for your product and download all updates for it as they exit.
Currently each unit of Cisco hardware category assigned numbers from 1 to 18 the higher the category the higher the cost of coverage. This 800 Series Router to a Category and 3620 would be category 7. Unfortunately this pricing structure was invented before the arrival of phones from Cisco and although this should be a category of 0.2 is no such category so they fall into the category of up to 1 router price range.
SMARTnet is sold in two forms software only and Hardware and software as software distribution coverage that as the right to download software updates from Cisco Advanced hardware and software version provides for the replacement of Cisco equipment must accept that your equipment is broken.
Hardware and software SMARTnet are also sold in two forms SMARTnet and SMARTnet Base location - and include additional replacement of failed equipment but with SMARTnet base replacement hardware is delivered through the normal couriers and you have to install it yourself with SMARTnet place the engineer will be sent to installation. SMARTnet hardware support is being sold for two periods of daily coverage it allowed the time that you have the right to report defects in Cisco the lowest level of coverage is defined as 8 hours a day 5 days a week or 8x5. If this is not enough for your needs available next period of coverage is 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Equipment Cisco SMARTnet contract specifies the time period in which Cisco will be shipped replacement equipment. After the requirement to replace the agreement was reached on the Cisco will ship the new equipment accurate or higher configuration that you have covered in the agreed time frame. SMARTnet contract offers three levels of response times of hardware NDS or the next working day which can sometimes be referred to as SDS or the same day a ship means that you can expect your replacement hardware to arrive the next working day. If this is too long the two versions 4 or 2 hours. Cisco will seek to ensure the replacement of hardware in 2 or 4 hours depending on your contract. It is obvious that there are certain requirements that must be met before Cisco will offer these levels of support because not all locations are eligible.
