Tv tuner stb question.?
Hi all!
I'm building my first htpc and have a curious question on set top boxes.
If I buy a digital tuner card will I be able to plug in my cable provider (ntl) directly into it and watch tv with full guide support? The ntl stb I use requires a card to be inserted to actIvate the account before watching so is their any hardware that allow me to use this activation card with a tv tuner?
If not then what other setup should I go with? Direct connection via hdmi and just use the ntl menu system and remote? Would be a shame to loose the mythtv option in my xbmc htpc.

You need a tuner/capture card with A/V in, and an IR blaster to control the cable box you already have.
The cable box does the job of tuning an decrypting the channels (one at a time as cable boxes do), the tuner card digitizing the A/V from the box, to either watch or record, plus run the IR blaster.
There more than likely is no card which can directly tune the encrypted cable channels, at least legitimately.
