What is the difference between between sound cards on the purchase of a new Dell XPS system?
What are the differences between the Integrated Sound Blaster®Audigy™ HD Software Edition and the Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ XtremeMusic (D) Sound Card? The Dell online sales rep stated that the X-Fi was "crispy," and "5x more better." I can't even begin to understand how "crispy" and "5x more better" gives me the info that I need to make a choice, so I'M HERE

What sort of sound quality do you need (and are you a gamer)? If you want anything good, you'll want X-Fi.
Sound cards effect the output sound quality. A sound card is responsible for converting that digital information in the computer to actual sound playable through headphones or speakers. The better the conversion, the better the sound.
Cheap sound cards first do a poorer conversion. They also allow for limited hardware use. For example, if you have a 5.1 speaker setup, or a 7.1 speaker setup, most low end sound cards cannot cope with them. If you want any sort of processing on the sound, like more bass, more treble, you'll want a good sound card as well, because it has to be done properly on the hardware, not in software.
For gamers, you need a decent sound card also because you want to offload sound processing to the sound card, rather than have the CPU deal with it. A good sound card has a better processor.
EDIT: If you're asking why anyone would get a cheap sound card, the answer is price. It's a whole lot more expensive to buy an X-Fi.
