C2D E6550,2gb ddr2 and geforcegtx275 sli on nforce 680i board vs i7,3gb ddr3 with gtx 275 for high res gaming?
I'm still not impressed with the Core i7 as far as a gamer computer is concerned.
Why?
Because it's a Quad Core processor with HT. (Hyperthreading Technology) This means it can simultaneously run several threads at once with it's four actual processor cores, and it's four virtual processor cores.
How many games are out right now that will use all four cores of a quad core processor? Right! You can almost count them on your hand!
Summation?
C2D all the way, and the E6550 with TWO processor cores operating at 2.33GHz EACH, 4MB of shared L2 cache, and a 1333MHz FSB will 'Light sum games up'!
I would use Corsair XMS2 PC6400 ram. 800MHz DDR2 ram, High-Performance, and it's $35 bucks after rebate for 4GB's,

I'm definitely a yes with the GeForce GTX275, but I've got a soft spot in my heart, (Or maybe it's my head!), for an Evga GeForce GTX260 Superclocked 216 Core vid card.
This card is Real comparable to the GTX280, but the price is Way cheaper! Check the reviews.
I would also recommend an OCZ StealthXStream 600W. This 600 Watt Psu is capable of reliably delivering 728.8 Watts, if you keep the temp at 47 degrees Celsius, (118 degrees Fahrenheit)
