The Airbus 380 cockpit has a single side stick control?
Why did they do this and how hard is this for pilots to adjust to this? Does this make controlling an aircraft of that size more difficult or easier? Similar to driving a 18wheeler with a small steering wheel?
Moving from one form of control to another usually isn't a problem, irrespective of the environment (plane, car, train). What takes time is getting used to the effects of the controls.
For example, if you have a side stick that works exactly like a yoke, going from one to the other is easy. But if the side stick does something a bit different when it is moved, as opposed to a yoke, then it can take practice to get used to.
As I recall, Airbus aircraft don't respond to the side stick in exactly the same way that a Boeing responds to the yoke, and that can take some getting used to, but just moving to a stick is easy. (However, I've never flown a Scarebus, so I cannot speak from personal experience.)
