Display Port
DisplayPort is a next generation digital display interface for Displays/Monitors. This new interface's micropacket architecture offers significantly more bandwidth with multi-monitor support over a single cable.
Uses of DiplayPort for Dual Display
The DisplayPort chip can be placed on a graphics card, into a notebook, on a docking station, in a stand-alone dongle or on DisplayPort-compatible monitors.
The chip can drive Dual Displays from a single digital output port and allow end-users to enjoy Dual Displays from a single digital output port for each application or dedicate each application to a separate display.

Applications could be for gamming, garphic designs and spreadsheet analysis.
The chip does not require any system software updates and enables a fully plug and play operation.

Typical resolutions for the DisplayPort for Dual Display are 1920 * 1080 to 3840 * 2160 with 60Hz refresh rates. These do mean a lot for the relevant applications run.
Availability :
Integrated Device Technology Inc. has launched the PanelPort VMM1300 ViewXpand chip, claimed to be the first VESA DisplayPort based controller providing complete high-definition (HD) multi-monitor capability without the need for an additional graphics card. The chip drives multiple monitors from a single digital output port for each application.
AMD has announced availability for its first commercially available 3D workstation graphics card equipped with VESA's DisplayPort interface.
Conclusions :
DisplayPort therefore seems to be the better alternative for Dual Displays.
