IBM thinkpad beeps (one long, one short) but won't boot up?
When I press the power button, all the computer does is turn on the fans, and beep one long beep and one short beep. I think this problem was created because of my netgear wireless card...since my thinkpad is an older model, I need to use an external wireless card with it...and something went wrong....
My IBM think pad is:
2645-3EU

The beeps are telling you of a hardware failure. So you need to find out what the failure is, before you can correct it.
Make sure the wireless card in not in the computer, if you suspect that is the cause. If it is being plugged into a PCMCIA socket on the side of the machine, (That is how mine installs), make sure that no pins are bent inside the socket. Take a flashlight and look into the socket while empty and see if any pins appear to be bent or touching each other. IF any pins are bent, you will have to straighten then so they do not touch, and the adapter will be able to engage all the pins.
