Server Memory – Heart of any organization
Client server model has been the dominant model in the industry for the past decade. In this architecture a server which runs on a central computer connected to the clients services the requests from them. This model has several advantages since the clients do not have to perform many computations or utilize resources. Another advantage is that the efficiency of the system can be increased by improving the server and need not improve the client as well. The server therefore has to utilize a lot of resources. The most important resource is the Server Memory.
It is where the server stores the data about the programs it is executing and the results are stored till it is sent to the clients. The size and fastness of the Server Memory has a bearing on the efficiency of the server and the number of clients it can serve at a time. The servers usually come with a heavy configuration with a lot of resources. However the demands of the organization and the clients may increase and the server might not cope with it. There will be a need to improve the performance of the system by upgrading the Server Memory.
There are different types of memories. The RAM or the memory can either be a Dynamic RAM or a Static RAM. There are also different types of RAMs like DDR2 or DDR3 RAMs. They type of the memory is based on the server and its motherboard. This information can be got from the system property of the computer on which server is running. Most of the hardware manufacturers provide Server Memory upgrades and they come in various sizes. The upgrade is usually a extra chip which has to be inserted in an extra RAM slot. A server is bound to face the need for a memory upgrade at one point or another. However a lot of options are available.
