Can you attach an IDE drive as a slave to an SATA drive?
My brother has an old IDE drive that won't load in the new computer we built him, and I think we should just get him a new SATA hard drive, attach the IDE one as a slave, and get everything off of it that way.
Is that possible though?
Most new motherboards that are SATA, also have one IDE port still. Often it is used for an IDE DVD drive, which is likely a Master. If you set the IDE drive to slave, it may work on that cable. Some DVD drives have "Master" (most likely) or "Master with slave" (sometimes), check it's jumpers to be sure first.
If you have no IDE ports, you can get SATA/IDE converters on Ebay, and put the IDE drive into the machine as a SATA drive. Be careful which adapter you get, some are for converting SATA drive to IDE ports, some are converting IDE drives to SATA ports.
