Why can't I connect my Sony VAIO VGN-CS385J laptop with my Samsung tv?

I tried using two cables to connect my laptop to my TV, but did not worked. I used a VGA to HDMI cable and nothing came up. I also used a VGA to RCA cable and still nothing happened. Can someone please advice?

Those cable adapters you bought will NEVER work.

HDMI-VGA cables are intended for video cards that have a specially-built HDMI port capable of sending out an analog VGA signal. You CANNOT use it to connect an Analog VGA source to a Digital HDMI jack on an HDTV. Digital is NOT compatible with Analog, no matter what cable adapters you try to use.

Those VGA-RCA cables likewise are intended for video cards that have a specially-built VGA port capable of sending out RCA TV signals-- It will NOT work with just any VGA port, and the VGA port on your laptop is NOT one of those specially-built ones.

The only HDTVs you can directly connect your Vaio laptop's VGA port to are those HDTVs that are also equipped with a VGA port.
