Will this riser card let me use better video cards?
I have a dell dimesnion E310. It is a crappy computer. It doesn't have PCi express x16 slots. It has 2 pcis and 1 pci expressx1. I was looking on the internet and i found a riser card. It claims that it will go into my pci x 1 slot and let me expand video cards. Should i get this to run the pci express cards? Im looking at some good video cards on tigerdirect. I am also planning on getting a power supply. But, is this gonna work.
Errr, no.
The slot is a PCI-express x1, no add in card will alter that. The add-in card may allow you to plug in a faster video card but you've still got an x1 slot at the bottom of it... so it will perform like an x1 video card.
It's be like buying big fat alloy wheels for a Citroen 2cv... you could use big fat tyres, but it will still only do 60mph and wallow round the corners.
You'd do better to save up and replace the E310 with something half way decent with a half way decent video card.
