my cpu cooler will not lock down?
i have recently bought a Phenom II 965 and a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H 890GX motherboard but the cpu cooler will not fit in to place.
the thermal paste was pre applied so i placed it gently on top of the cpu and only 1 retention bracket will fit on at a time....the other side just isn't long enough if 1 side was already on
it told me to push down on the cpu but i KNOW i don't have to push as hard as i was doing, i would end up breaking it and it wasn't even close to attaching anyway. i even took it off and tried the other way but to no avail....any ideas?
also, the thermal paste appears to still be covered on the cpu and cpu fan well, do i really need to reapply? because i ordered the paste and everything except that came so i would have to get in contact with ebuyer about that (pain in the ***)
I can assure you that the clips are long enough to both fit. You have to put one on, then manipulate and stretch the other. For me it usually works to clip the one side, and then pull the other a bit sideways as well as down. I also mostly apply the downward push to the side of the second clip.
