Does it matter if the my replacement Capacitor is biger that the one on my circuit board?
I have brought a few Capacitors to replace the swollen ones on the bored of the hd monitor
C263 (1000uf 25v) but the replacement ones are slightly fatter that the ones to be changed,they both have the same 1000uf 25v on the side,i just want some reassurance that im not going to fry the bored by replacing them with these new ones.
The diameter of the capacitor isn't critical as long as it fits. In fact, larger capacitors generally can dissipate heat better.
The capacitors that are found in monitors, motherboards, switching power supplies, and other electronics that do voltage level conversions using high frequency switching techniques should be low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) types. Merely matching the uF but substituting a general purpose type will cause problems. It is possible to place potentially damaging additional stresses on other parts in the circuit by using the wrong type.
Millions (billions?) of capacitors were made and sold to manufacturers that were supposed to be low ESR but were made with a defective electrolyte that did not meet the full requirements for low ESR use. That is most likely the reason for the swollen caps in your monitor.
