Where is the power cord that comes from the power button look like?
I'm trying to short it out but i can't seem to find a cord that comes from the power button that says Power/PWR. Anyone know where is it or what it looks like on an XPS 700?
I don't know what it is like on your specific machine, but generally the front panel items (power switch, reset switch, power LED, disk LED) each have a twisted pair of wires, usually white and a color for each pair. Ordinarily you see them bundled together with zip ties and terminating in little black connectors that slide onto pins on the motherboard. Usually these pins will be near the lower right corner of the motherboard, though this is not ALWAYS the case.
It's possible that instead of individual connectors, your Dell has one multi-pin connector that connects all the front panel items at once. If you think that is the case, look on the motherboard itself where the connector goes. You might see the pin identifications written in white next to the pins: PWR SW, HD LED, PWR LED, RESET, and once in a while you will still find one with pins for SPKR. If that is what you find, unplug the whole connector and short the PWR SW pins with your screwdriver tip.
