Processors Cpu

Processors Cpu

are dual core processors as good as a single cpu ?

i have a dual core at 2.1 ghz each. is it safe to assume this is the equivalent to 4.2 ghz when it comes to meeting system reqs for programs?

are dual core cpus better than a single cpu of the same speed? like dual core 2.1ghz vs a single cpu at 4.2

It depends on the programs that you use. If you are using a program that can use both cores then yes it will run faster than a single core program. If the program can only run 1 execution core at a time then you wil not notice much of a difference. If you are trying to decide between a fast single core or a dual core then I would tell you to go with a dual core because it will be more future proof than a single core will be. Programs that can take advantage of a dual core will become the norm in the next few years. From there they will start producing multi core programs as Intel has announced a octo (8) core processors by the end of next year. The number of execution cores will become more important than clock speed in the near future.

Hope this helps.
