Any news or experience with the Remington 7600 series?
I've been looking for varmint rifles lately, and most of my choices have been the typical CZ, Savage, Tikka, and Remington choices. All of them have a lot of reviews and articles to choose from.
But I've also been looking at the Remington 7600 series, and there isn't so much information about them. Does anybody know how good their triggers are? How nice the fit and finish is? What is the expected factory accuracy of such a rifle at 100 yards (in .223 I suppose)?
It just sort of confuses me because the Remington 7600 is a shotgun-turned-rifle, and I've never equated shotguns with precision.

My brother has a Remington 7600 in .30-06 with synthetic stocks. It is not a shotgun turned rifle, but merely a slide action rifle that closely resembles a Remington 870 action. This similarity of action type and location of safety and action release button lead to Remington to make the Model 7615 in .223 Remington using M16/AR-15 style magazines and market them to police agencies with the idea that their rifle and shotgun have the same action thus less training time if they were to buy the 7615.
I digress, the 7600 is intended to be a hunting rifle not a long range varminter. The slide action allows for very quick follow up shots if needed, but the design handles substantial cartridges. The trigger is adequate, but will never be a crisp break like a tuned trigger on a bolt rifle. The fit is good, but the forearm/slide has a slight shake to it. As far as accuracy goes his is a .30-06 and I don't have mush trigger time with his rifle, but do have some. Best I could get it to do was 1 1/2" group at 100 yards, but this was from an unsupported prone position, using generic .30-06 Soft points. No rest, no bi pod, no sling, just me and the rifle. Could I do better? I'd like to think so. Could the rifle do better? Again I'd like to think so.
