Is hec HP585D RETAIL 585W ATX12V Power Supply big enough power supply to power a 500w Amp and a Head Unit.?
I'm building my own house system basically. I have 1 12" Kicker Comp 400w RMS 800W peak, Powered in my car by a 500w alpine amp.
From researching on the internet.. It seems you can use a computer power supply to power it all. What I want to do. Is Have the power supply power my amp and also a head unit. The head unit will have 2 speakers hooked up to it as well.
Will... hec HP585D RETAIL 585W ATX12V Power Supply. power both of those? or will In need a bigger power supply with more +12v rails?
I have no idea what rails mean. I don't really know much about power supply's at all for that matter. If anyone could help me out. I'd appreciate it.
You are mixing apples and oranges here when you talk of watts on a speaker and amplifier, vs watts on a computer power supply.
You need to research the power requirements of the amp and head unit. These are meant to be installed in a automotive environment, and in those locations are expected to be able to draw from a single high amperage circuit off the charging system.
The data label on the computer power supply should break down the maximum amperage that can be drawn on each of the 12V leads or rails the the power supply contains. If none of these will provide enough amperage, then you either have to have someone help you co-phase two or more outputs, to increase the amperage available to the amp and head, or get a bigger power supply that will provide enough power on a single leg.
