Why can we not use a plastic that is flexible and hinged to support the spinal column ?
Instead of a strong metallic rod. Has anyone tried an approach of this sort in the past to work with scoliosis patients?
I suppose I should have said cellulose based products or a rubberized plastic that wouldn't deteriorate, or snap.
good question, I think they already do in other types of surgeries, but in this case for scoliosis you would want the rigid support of the metal. the back is growing wrongly and it needs something to force it to straighten back out.
As for disk fractures and breaks where flexibility is needed, I think they already use bio plastics.
