PCMCIA card can't be detected, is it broken?
I own Elan AD142 PCMCIA card. It runs under Window ME. Thing is that it suddenly couldn't be properly detected. Normally once this card is inserted, computer will detect it as 'DATA_ACQUISITION_CARD:_AD142A_1.00', however now computer detect it as 'unknown device'. Also I try in other notebook with window 2000, and only 'unknow manufacturer' is shown. Is the card broken? How come the card suddenly break? I did use it hour ago before 'it broke'... Anyone did encounter such problem?
Usually when a device is detected as "unknown", it means that the drivers needed for the card are not installed or corrupt. It is the driver that gives the PC the information it needs to identify the card and activate it.
Go to the web site of the card's maker and check in their "Download" or "Drivers" section. They should have a free copy of the driver (probably one for ME, one for 2000, one for XP, etc) that you can download and install.
Once the driver is installed (or replaced if it is become corrupt on the ME machine) Windows sould be able to identify the card again.
