How can I copy/cut/paste with quicktime pro if those commands are greyed out in the Edit menu?
Yes, I have quicktime pro, not regular qt. And sometimes the edit menu commands appear, but sometimes they're greyed out and not usable. I don't know if this has to do with the clipboard or what. I can move the cursors in a movie to select a small portion of the movie, but when I go to copy that portion, it doesn't work.
They're probably greyed out because you are trying to edit an MPEG 1 or 2 video/file. Since Quicktime Pro does not edit MPEG files, you need to convert the file to a quicktime file using an application called "MPEG Streamclip" made by a company called "squared 5", before you can edit it using QT Pro. You can download the application at:

Once you've downloaded and installed:
Open MPEG streamclip>Click on file menu>open file>(click on video file to open)>file again>export to quicktime.
When the big box appears with all the options, you can choose the specifications that you want the movie to be exported in. Then click "make movie" when you are done. It'll take a few minutes. Rename the file and save it where you want.
