Will a cpu cooler from a dell work well on a newer cpu?
Im building a new system, seeing as how this one is pretty bad. Was wondering if the cpu cooler on this(dell dimension 8300) would work well to cool a athlon II x2 240? It works fine cooling a p4(3.2 ghz)
Just wondering if I should buy OEM or one that comes with stock cooler(trying to save money)
A cooler from a p4 shouldn't fit the athlon II x2. The configuration is different. If you want to save money for the future, buy a cooler that has multiple plates for fitment on the motherboard. If I were you, I would just go ahead and get the retail boxed version of the x2 that comes with the heatsink/fan combo and is guaranteed to fit unless you plan on overclocking it. Notice that with AMD chips, the warranty is only honored if you're using the stock OEM heatsink/fan anyways.
