Power supply for a CPU?
i have an old IBM netvista computer with a power supply of 155W and a celeron 1GHZ CPU if i change the motherboard and the cpu with an Athlon at 2.6 max 45W or with an Celeron 1.8Ghz max 35W will it work? without changing the power supply.? The actual processor uses max 30W
It's hard to say without knowing the specifications of the 155W power supply. But my guess is that the netvista power supply won't supply enough power on the 12V line, only about 4A to 5A.
Typical 155W power supplies from that era had specs like this:
+3.3V@10A +5V@18A +12V@4.2A
It was designed for a computer that used the +12V supply pretty much only for the drives. Your new motherboard will likely draw most of its power from the 12V line, not leaving enough for your hard drive and CD/DVD drive.
Forget about a graphics card.
