Motherboard Cpu Video
My video card runs hot. I have a VGA cooler but, doesn't seem to help much. Is it my motherboard/cpu combo?
My computer specs are: 500W Antec power supply, Gigabyte S-series motherboard, AMD Athlon 64 dual core 5200+(2.7Ghz), 3 GB of RAM at 800Mhz, 2 Seagate hard drives, Pioneer DVD burner, PNY GeForce 8800 GT video card, and Windows XP Pro. I have tried another video card with the same overheating problem. Do I need a better motherboard/cpu combo to fix this problem? By the way, the video card idles between 78 and 80 degrees. During game play it goes from 90 to 100 degrees Celsius.
The card is not overclocked. The fan is set to auto in the Nvidia Control Panel and I also use the Nvidia System Monitor for the temperature readings. The GPU fan will go to 100% during game play and with the VGA cooler on high, it's still not enough to lower the temps lower than 90 degrees.
I doubt it has anything to do with your cpu/motherboard combo, unless you overclocked the cpu and fsb speeds and accidentally upped the pci-e speeds as well. How's the airflow in your casing? make sure you have at least 1 intake and exhaust fan and make sure the exhaust fan isn't backed into a wall. Good airflow is an important factor when it comes to controlling pc temps.
How are the temps for the rest of your components? The GPU will usually run hotter than the rest of your system, and a high ambient temperature can also cause a component to overheat even if you have the best coolers.
