How do you find out how many MHz (megahertz) a Pentium III processor is?
My uncle wants to install Windows XP on a machine that has 98 right now. He updated the hard drive and it has a pentium III processor. Minimun requirements for XP home are
*Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
*At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
*CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
*Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
*Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution

You said 98 is installed?
Right Click on "My Computer" & choose "Properties"
On the "General" Tab, look towards the bottom right hand information under the heading " Computer: "
The first line should say who made the chip.
The second should give you the speed again & amount of RAM available.
EXAMPLE:
Computer:
Intel (r) Pentium III
650 MHz, 640 MB of RAM
OR...
When the system first boots up, you can watch the
P.O.S.T. screen to see the cpu's speed also.
If you look at the picture on the link I provided, it will give you an idea where to look.
