Light Display Inverter
The screen on my laptop stopped lighting up. I can still see images being displayed. What is wrong with it?
they might have dropped it when it was getting shipped or was handled really rough at the airport. this is very stupid of me but I did not carry the thing with me when i went home this winter...
could it be the inverter?
is the bulb cracked/damaged?
Yes you are correct. The Backlight is most likely out. This can be very costly to repair.
There is one other possibility, It could but very unlikely be the switch that tells the computer when the top is closed. Without knowing what kind of laptop you have I can only suggest that you look for the switch or pressure point the lid contacts when its closed and try tapping/fiddling with it.
I know this defeats the point of having a laptop, but you can hook up and external monitor to the laptop to still be able to use it.
I hope you have luck with the switch, rather then the backlight.
