Is there any way to replace the front of an LCD computer monitor?
I don't have dead pixels or anything, but my screen is scratched and heavily smudged thanks to leaving it with my younger brother for a week.
Anyway, is there any way to accomplish this (I have an ASUS VK222H if that helps)
Yes, you can. But the cost of replacing only the front screen would probably cost enough to buy you two or more brand new monitors!!
That's one problem with laptops, the lcd screen is the most expensive part of it. So if the screen gets broken, it can be replaced, but usually almost isn't worth the cost compared to getting a replacement laptop.
Same for a desktop monitor.
In the old days of tube tv's (black & whites of the 1950's), there were large light bulb type things called vacuum tubes which worked like transistors. But when one went bad, you didn't throw away the whole tv because it was so dang expensive. To replace the individual tube, tho' was only pennies, compared. So you'd find the bad tube, go down to hardware store where they had a rolling display of tubes, test the old one to make sure it's bad, and then get the new one, put back into the huge b&w tv, and then it'd work again. Kinda like checking for a blown fuse in your car.
But today, with modern tech, it's more of a "it breaks, throw it away" lifestyle. Especially when costs of repair are much worse than getting new. And yes, new LCD's are much better now......and cheaper.
