What would be the comparison between a Pentium 4 CPU and one with Hyper Threading?
Would a Pentium 4 with hyper-threading equal out to a dual core CPU?
since the dual cor has two cores, but the P4 has one with multiple threads.
No, HT doesn't even come close to the performance of more recent dual-core designs. Even a 1.86Ghz Core 2 Duo E6300 performs twice as fast as a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 HT.
For older dual-core CPUs like the Pentium-D, there wasn't much difference at all between that and a Pentium-4, except in applications specifically coded to take advantage of the extra core.
