Can I use car speakers for home audio?
I want to get new speakers for my home stereo system because my current ones are huge. I looked up prices for new speakers and they are very high. I noticed I can get car audio speakers for very cheap. Can I make an enclosure for the car speakers and use them with a home stereo system?
I've seen it done before, but the quality was not good, car speakers are 4 ohm and most home amps are 8 ohm, you run the danger of burning out the home amp, you can use a car amp with a converter but car amps are not that clean sounding in a home environment..also car speakers have more distortion than home speakers you really don't notice in a car because the environment is noisy but in a home you do notice it...if you want some good sounding home speakers that are not too expensive take a look at Fluance speakers, Also BIC makes some good speakers that are not that expensive, also maybe Dayton drivers to make your own...
