I want to replace a 1 GHz Athlon CPU with a 1.7 GHz Athlon XP CPU. Do i need a different heatsink?
Also, would it be advisable or inadvisable to put heat sink compound on an Athlon CPU whose heatsink uses a phase change compound?
First of all, what you're trying to do won't get you the performance you're looking for. It'd be MUCH better to just save your money and invest it in a new computer rather than upgrade that old-skool one. And you might need a new heatsink, but I couldn't say for certain.
