Heatsink Fan Assembly
After changing my processer and ram, my computer turns itself off after about 5 seconds, anyone know why?
I replaced a Celeron processer with a pentium D, the heatsink/fan assembly was difficult to fit to the motherboard, maybe I used too much force to push the locating pins in. the ram was upgraded from 512 Mb to 1 gig. When I switched on - nothing!!. The fans turn, there are no beeps, and the whole thing shuts down after about 5 seconds.
Could be a couple things, although if it was thermal paste and you already tried booting it your processor would likely be fried by now and not booting.
Check the power supply, although if it were that you would likely see it boot and shutdown later. Minimum should be 400 watts, higher if you have multiple drives (HD or Optical drives).
Also check the memory; if it isn't board specific it wouldn't be able to boot. Is the memory counter showing onscreen? If so it's not the memory, but if it isn't even displaying I would swap back to the 512 stick and see if it boots.
Last but not least, check the data cable connection for bent pins. If you manhandled the cable and bent a pin, you would have trouble booting.
