Amd Phenom II x4 970 Running Hot?
I recently bought and installed an Amd Phenom II x4 970. While playing Dead Space, I saw temperatures at 54 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is 62 degrees Celsius. There was nothing else running in the background that would require much of the Cpu's energy. Also, the Cpu has not and is not being overclocked.
Cpu: Amd Phenom II x4 970
Heatsink: Coolermaster GeminIIS
Case: Coolermaster Elite 310 with 3 fans (2 intake and 1 exhaust)
Graphics Card: XFX Nvidia 9800 GTX+
My computer is also stored in a wooden desk beneath me with the door to the underside of the desk opened. My question is, is this normal given its current conditions?
The Cpu was running at 54 degrees Celsius, not 62. The 62 degrees Celsius is the highest possible temperature the processor is built to allow, according to the manufacturer's site.
No, that is not normal. 62C is Very High
i would take your computer out from under there.
if that does not work, maybe your case is not well ventilated.
it could be the CPU heatsink is not on the CPU correctly or not enough paste is on the CPU
it can be a number of things.

From looking at reviews of your Coolermaster CPU cooler it seems the problem is the cooler itself.
many people running it on any AMD quad or X6 seems to be complaining about high temps.
i would upgrade to a better cooler man
