Which fan/heatsink is better?
Replacing my old AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor with an AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb......turns out the one for the 6000+ has a much larger heatsink with copper tubing in it. While the Deneb is much smaller in general and dosent have any copper. Which should I use?
Either one should be fine, as the 6000+ is a 125W TDP CPU. The Deneb might be one of the 95W TDP units. If not, then it too would be a 125W. As both use the same socket, either should fit fine and offer at worst similar performance. The Phenom II in general are more efficient than the older K8 X2, such as yours.
FWIW, I have found the recent Athlon II and Phenom II HSF units to be at quite good in both terms of efficiency of cooling and convenience. They do indeed work as expected with the CPU they are paired with.
