Is it easier to see a glossy or a matte laptop screen when you are sat out in the garden and it is sunny?
I just bought a new laptop and i completely forgot to take that into account, because that is one of the reasons i bought a laptop; to use in the garden.
My laptop screen is glossy, and i'm guessing that you are going to say matte. So how can i improve the glossy screen so that i can see it better outside?
If possible, take the glossy screen back to where you bought it and complain loudly if they don't exchange it for a matte screen one or give you your money back.
They likely don't have a matte screen, but the object is stores react to their customers and stores then tell the industry that people don't like glossy screens and want a option for matte.
What it boils down to is glossy screens are cheaper to make than matte ones, as the screen makers just spray on a anti-reflection coating (supposedly) instead of applying a anti-glare/matte film to the LCD panels.
Glossy screens look all nice in the store, where they can control the lighting and environment to reduce reflections, but once you take it out of the store and use it for awhile, you get eyestrain and headaches using it in various locations.
Now if you can get your money back that would be great, as you can buy matte screen laptops. Apple makes their MacBook Pro 15" and 17" in a very nice matte finish option that the whole screen is 100% readable in any condition except a flashlight or the sun beamed directly on the screen.
Lenovo also makes matte screen finish laptops as they were smart and polled their business customers and over 80% prefer the matte over the glossy finish.
You can shop around carefully, look for misleading names like "TrueBright" which infer a glossy display. They call it this because they say glossy screens produce better color, which they can, at a significant cost. What's the use in having better color if you can't see half the screen?
If your stuck with your glossy screen, there are matte films you can buy, cut to fit and apply to your screen, much like tinting your car windows. Unfortunately you'll need to buy a few, as over time they dry out, peal and curl at the edges, collect dirt etc. Making your computer look dingy.
