How can I use fire wire without the firewire port?

i have a 2008 edition Aluminium mac book and it is without a firewire port. I have a camera that connects via fire wire and I need to connect it somehow to my computer. I am wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem. I need this for an assignment that is due on monday the 8th of nov, so any help is awesome.

Thanks!
good point the camera is a sony HDR-HC3

The ONLY two ways I can think of to get the video from a miniDV tape camcorder into a MacBook with no firewire port:

1) Use/borrow/get a Mac with a firewire port and import the video to an external drive. When the importing is done, disconnect the drive and connect it to your PowerBook so you can edit the files just imported.

2) Get an Elgato external analog/digital converter. Connect the camcorder's AV port to the A/D converter and connect the A/D converter to a USB port. The camcorder will feed analog video out and it will re-digitized through the A/D converter.

Note: Not all 2008 Aluminum MacBooks are without a firewire port... Mine has one... You know your computer best - if yours does not have one, you know better than I do.
The firewire-to-USB converter/cable/adapter things do not work - so don't bother and don't waste your money trying (though it would have been helpful to know which camcorder manufacturer/model number).
