My laptop's (Acer Aspire one notebook) fan exhaust seems to of gotten slightly louder recently...?
Should I be concerned? The laptops performance hasn't seemed to be directly affected in any way, but what might be the cause of this? And if possible, how can I get the fan to operate the way it used to? (nearly silent)
If this is truly the solution, then where can i get one of these cans?
That would usually be due to a digital PWM fan being sent a signal from your laptop's motherboard that one of the embedded components is becoming too hot, such as your CPU, GPU, or, depending on the laptop, even the hard drive. A quick fix for this can be using compressed air to blow all the dust out, increasing airflow and allowing the laptop to "breathe". The fan is also louder partially because of the dust that may have been clogging it up in the first place. If this works to no avail, you could try downloading SpeedFan to decrease that fan's speed, although I wouldn't advise that if one of the components is actually overheating. You can usually recognize signs of component overheating by feeling excess heat on the bottom of a laptop.
Edit: I know Wal-Mart sells cans of compressed air, and I'm rather sure you can find them at most general supplies stores in the cleaning or tech section. It can also be bought at Newegg.com, my favorite source of all things technology-related.
