Can you insert a secondary Graphics card in a PCI express slot?
I have a dell inspiron 1420, and i am aware that you are unable to upgrade the graphics card, which is the geforce 8400m gs with 128mb of vram, which isn't enough to play new games such as empire total war. I think this laptop has a PCI express card slot and i read that you are able to insert a graphics card into it?
is this true, and if so what kind of card will fit???
Video express cards don't exist yet. Even if it did, performance would be slow. All PCI express video cards use x16 slot. Express card provides only a x1 link.
I did read about a prototype device where you can put a video card into an enclosure and link it to the express card slot. The catch was you have to plug that enclosure to an electrical outlet and it can only be used with an external monitor.
So the only options are getting a better laptop with a better video card or a desktop which you can upgrade the video card over time.
