I have a laptop I just bought with a little problem..?

my friend gave me this laptop. i got a hard drive because the windows 98 laptop i got has only 1gb, anyways, theres a card called 3com Megahertz Global 10/100 LAN +56K Modem CardBus PC Card. When I sign in I get a message saying the file 'net656c9.cat' on 3Com Megahertz Global 10/100 Lan + 56K Modem CardBus PC Card cannot be found.. I dont think the card is even installed or what its for, can someone tell me where to get it installed and what ti's for? I tried connecting an ethernet cable but it wont fit in my computer.. i might get a wireless card.. btw my laptop is a Compaq ARMADA 1520DM

It sounds like this refers to a Wireless card which was once in the laptop. This card should work on a wireless network or you should be able to use it with a phoneline if it is still in there. Ask your friend if they still have the drivers disc for it and reinstall the drivers to get it to work. The jack you tried to connect with is probally for the phone line. Good luck!
