If core duo means Dual core then what is the 2 mean in the core 2 duo?
Please I want straight answer or at least point me to some useful resource, I really want to understand this thing, Intel Confused so many people with it's products.
Core duo, core 2 duo, Centrino Duo, Dual Core, Core extreme, I mean WHAT the HELL??? WHY??
horribly confusing nomenclature those from intel
and if you have not been following developments ... yes, it's horribly confusing indeed
to start with, they are all dual core processors
meaning 2 cores in single die or casing
just as the quad core has 4 cores in single die or casing
Core duo, core 2 duo, Centrino Duo, Dual Core, Core extreme ... these are all intel nomenclature
i. core duo > this is the first generation of dual core processors, but only mobile processors those
t2x00 / t2x50 > 32 bit processors with 2 mb l2 cache
this was followed by,
ii. core 2 duo > these are both mobile processors
t5xx0 / t7x00 > 64 bit processors with 2 mb & also 4 mb l2 cache
and desktop processors,
e4x00 / e6x00 > 64 bit processors with 2 mb & also 4 mb l2 cache
in between, intel slipped in a new budget line 'pentium dual core' ., catering both mobile and later desktop processors
t2060 / t2080 / t2130 / t2330 > 32 bit processors with 1 mb l2 cache
e2140 / e2160 > 64 bit processors with 1 mb l2 cache
centrino duo > this is not a processor, but an intel term in mobile category to indicate use of "intel processor + intel chipset + intel wifi" >> the processor could be core duo or core 2 duo
core 2 extreme > a premium line, as the name suggests, they form the upper segment of the core 2 duo family and both mobile and desktop variants are available
hope i could clear some bit ... and sure it will take some time to sink in, lol
