Can you notice the difference in performance between an i3 and i5 (dual core) processor?
I'm planning to purchase a new laptop and would like to know if there is a HUGE difference in performance of these two processors.
Hi, I work for Intel and Yes there is a noticeable difference between i3 and i5. The most important factor is Turbo Boost, the i5 and i7 both have this and the i3 does not. Turbo Boost allows your processor to run at faster speeds when you need it to, and run at lower speeds when you don't need the added performance. This saves your computers battery life and creates what we call 'Smart' performance. Before turbo boost computers typically ran at one speed and when you are running multiple applications, you could experience lag and slow processing speeds. With turbo boost your computer gives you that extra performance when you need it, to allow for a continous smooth experience, no matter the activity. The i5 also has improved smart cache, which will save your computer the hassel of having to acess your RAM memory everytime it needs to access information. The i7 has even better smart cache and will increase from the dual core, 4 way multi-tasking of the i3 and i5, to a quad core, 8 way-multi-tasking.
