Can i replace the processor form a dell optiplex gx280 with the processor from a dell dimension 2400?
i have these 2 computers the one i use as my main home computer is the optiplex which has a pretty slow processor but i have the dimension which is just a spare computer my cousin gave me. i would like to take the processor form the dimension (its like a 2.2 ghz) and use it to replace the optiplex (1.5 ghz) processor. Is this possible? they are both the same manufactured computers nothing has been changed or added.
The gx 280 is a newer system than the 2400. The processor socket is LGA775 and the 2400 is socket 478 so they will not work. Also the memory is DDR2 and DDR so you can't interchange it either.
You can probably buy a 2gb dual channel memory kit and install it and it will speed up your system greatly. You probably have 512mb or 1 gb of RAM in it now. More memory always speeds up a system.
