I have 146 pentium 4 motherboards that I need to test to see if they are working, what diagnostic card could I
buy to test them?
There is a device called a POST card - which reports the BIOS Post codes (will tell you which component is failing the POST process), but your best bet is to get a couple of processors and some ram, and a PCI video board and test each one independently.
I hate to say it, but you have a huge job ahead of you.
First pass - figure out which boards pass "POST", set them aside (discard all those that don't pass)
Second pass, using a xp boot cd (pebuilder - google for it) boot up the systems to verify they will boot and the devices are functional. Set these aside. Any that don't show all devices working, set into a pile to be retested with a real install of the OS on a harddrive.
pebuilder is a really great tool, and in the process of making a boot xp cd, you will be forced into making a universal boot cd which you can use for cleaning stubborn spyware/infectious agents off PCs. Checkout the plugins available (google for them too)
An alternative to making a boot cd is download kanotix (google for it), it is a linux OS variant that has support for most hardware.
If you get 40 good working boards out of the batch, consider yourself fortunate.
