What is the difference between Dell's Inspiron and XPS desktop models?
We are about to purchase one of these, but we are not sure which we need. It will be a family computer used for students, internet, music, and movies. We have few, if any, gaming needs. We've narrowed it down to the Inspiron 530 and the XPS 630. They both can come with equal amounts of memory and hard drive space, so what is the difference between them? Is the XPS that much faster or better performing? And if so, why? Thanks so much!
Other than looks the main difference is that the XPS 630 can be configured to use 2 video cards. With 2 video cards in SLI modern video games can play at higher Frames Per Second (more smooth). The XPS 630 can also be configured to use higher end graphics cards directly from Dell. For example the Inspiron 530 can be configured with an Nvidia 8600GT while the XPS 630 can be configured with an 8800GT.
The XPS 630 will have the potential to play games and graphic intensive programs better, but other than that both of these systems will do the tasks you are looking for quite well.
