Are wordpress pages with comments slowing down the blog and making it use more CPU on hosting account?
Should i let people post comments on my blog? I keep having troubles with CPU usage policies of hosts so i am trying to fix this issue. If a page has let's say more than 30 comments is it going to cost me a lot of CPU? Thanks for answers.
Every time your site runs some code such as access comments from the database, content for posts, post listings etc.. it uses CPU and Memory.
Most hosting accounts are "share hosting" accounts. This means it is 1 server that is setup to share the cpu, memory and other system resource for up to hundreds of sites. Each server and provider is different with how much you get for your site so there is no rule of thumb for exactly how big a WordPress site will run okay.
There is a plugin called Wp-Super-Cache that turns your static pages into html files so no php code is executed (or very little) for general user use. This cuts down on load time and server processing power.
CPU and memory usage also comes down to how many visitors you are getting. For every time a page or post is loaded, it runs queries which uses processing power which all adds up if you have 100 users al using the site at once.
So in summary, whether it is a comment, page content, posts content or a list of posts on your site, all these are loaded by queries to the database that is in the back-end of the site and then displayed on the front-end. Yes, in some ways the more comments, posts and dynamic data you have the more it will require processing power as there are more queries but if your site works without comments, but has issues with comments and does not get a lot of traffic, I would suggest finding another hosting provider
