Cpu Fan Heat
how good are passive heat sinks for CPU cooling?
I have an Intel Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor and want to install a Passive Heat Sink for the CPU for a noiseless operation.
The CPU fan makes a terrible humming sound which is really irritating.
If any one has a personal experience with Passive Heat Sinks please help me out, any product suggestions are also welcome.

Unless you have a CPU that generates very little heat (under 35 watts), you don't want to use a passive heatsink.
The only Celerons I would dare use a passive heatsink with are the Celeron 420 and Celeron 430, both of which generate less than 35W of heat, and even then I'd use a big passive heatsink.
For your particular Celeron, you can simply swap out the stock heatsink for a quieter one, like a Zalman CNPS7000, which comes with a fan controller so you can run it quietly: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118118

That combo is what I use to cool my Core 2 Duo and it's virtually silent.
