Which AMD processor to get?
i have a Amd anthalon 64x2 5200. 2600 Mhz, and this runs on an average temp of 50 digrees. after a few minutes, and some of my work it will get to run at a constant 60 unless I do summin serious in terms of CAD.
i was wondering whether i should upgrade to the AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz 4. will it be faster, or will the temp probs get worse, any experience or knowledge on the matter? i'm upgrading my cpu fan to a water cooller and increasing my 2gb to 3. Reply Asap because i can only upgrade in this day or the next. Peace.
You are on socket AM2+, and AM3 cpus are backwards-compatible with socket AM2+. So depending on what motherboard you're on, I would grab the Phenom II X4 955. But your particular board's BIOS has to support it. Check your motherboard manufacturer's support page for a list of compatible CPUs, and upgrade to the highest one it will support. You will not get much better temps on the 9850. If anything, worse temps, because of the 2 extra cores, under load. A better cooler will help temps. I would recommend the Xigmatek Dark Knight, or Cooler Master Hyper 212+. Top performing HSFs if you're on a budget. I am on the Phenom II X4 940 BE, w/ the Corsair H50. Pretty good temps.
